US Companies Dominate the Tech Acquisition Market

America’s Growth Capital’s (www.americasgrowthcapital.com) latest capital markets update had an interesting pieces of data that correlate well with Sami’s observations about exit markets last week.

According to ACG, of the top 15 technology acquirers in 2009,  11 were US-based, 2 were European, and 2 were Asian companies. A total of 80 acquisitions were made by this group, with 62 of them by the US-based companies.

The top five acquirers were IBM, Oracle, Cisco, Google, and Microsoft with nearly half of all the acquisitions between them (the same players also head the long-term list from 2006 to 2009 with a whopping total of 268 acquisitions during the four-year span). The sole European player in the top 10 was the German ERP powerhouse SAP.
